I returned from my visit to Bisbee by way of LA a week ago. The time in Bisbee was is much of an inward journey as a roadtrip.
I enjoyed visiting my friend Scott in LA at his studio were we both enjoyed our conversation about painting. His paintings are masterfully done. The content especially with regards to his figurative work seem almost like stills from a film or video. He captures a moment, a fraction of a section. There is a mystery about the moment. He draws you into the drama leaving questions unanswered.
I visited my sister-in-law and her daughter in Laguna Beach were we caught up on personal and family related matters.
In Bisbee I spent my time with my dear friends who are artists and who also are opening a restaurant in February, 2010 (screamingbansheepizza.com).
I literally and figuratively went into the desert. I took photographs and laid my canvases out in the sand of the desert and intuited my way through them. I was looking for some clarity away from the visual noise of my studio here in Davenport.
